Taste Cader Ales

Cader Gold

Aur Cader – 3.8% ABV

A light hoppy golden ale with a subtle herbal aroma. Dolgellau was the centre of a gold rush in the 19th century. At one time the local gold mines employed over 500 workers and they traditionally supply the gold for the royal weddings.

Cregennan Ale

Cwrw Cregennan – 3.8% ABV

A golden ale with citrus notes and a soft malt flavour.

On the northern slopes of Cader Idris, tucked away in the hills above the village of Arthog, sit the beautiful Cregennan Lakes. With views over the Mawddach Estuary this is the perfect spot for local bees from ‘Trees and Bees’ to collect pollen for their honey a little of which is added to the ale to enhance the taste.

Idris Bitter

Chwerw Idris – 4% ABV

A traditional bitter using a blend of malted barley and Willamette hops to give a soft caramel taste and spicy aromas.

Our brewery is at the foot of Cader Idris which translates as ‘Chair of Idris’. A mythical Welsh giant, Idris was said to have used the mountain as an enormous armchair to gaze at the stars.

Red Bandit

Cwrw Coch – 5% ABV

A warm ruby ale based on a traditional recipe with spicy berry aromas

Legend tells of the Red Bandits of Mawddwy; a notorious 16th century band of ‘flame haired’ outlaws who roamed the hills ambushing travellers as they crossed the high pass between Dolgellau and Dinas Mawddwy. Fabled to be the most lawless part of Wales at that time, the area remains a beautiful but still desolate point today.

TPA Talyllyn Pale Ale

4.5% ABV

A classic India Pale Ale, refreshingly bitter and light amber in colour.

Cascade hops add floral citrus notes and a distinctive hoppy finish.

Created to reflect the history and character of IPAs and their voyage to distant lands, this distinctive ale was brewed in collaboration with the Talyllyn Railway, the world’s oldest preserved railway based here in Snowdonia.

Limited Edition

Mawddach Sunset Pale Ale

Machlud Mawddach – 4% ABV

A very light and refreshing pale ale using hops from the Czech Republic and Kaffir Lime leaves to give a clean crisp citrus taste, brewed from the water that tumbles down from the hills and mountains surrounding Dolgellau.
